This is a replacement strap that works for ratchet handles used on trailers with a grab rail. Although in most cases, the lower your ratchet handle, the easier it is to tighten straps... sometimes, you want a little bit more reach. The picture to the right in the photos tab above, shows how much longer the ratchet handle assembly is when using this type of hook compared with the snap hook that bolts directly to the ratchet handle.

If you are hauling trucks with oversize tires on your wedge or flatbed trailer, this type of short hook end will give your ratchet handle 9 more inches of reach than the standard snap hook and spacers that bolt onto the ratchet handle directly.
