A little difficult to install but was exactly what I needed. Good quality and fits my 2020 F-350 like a charm.
Oh yeah, they're not easy to put in. But nearly impossible to steal once you got 'em on there!

Install on a 2015 F350 was quirky, but successful. I did the first one with a C clamp and it worked perfectly. I started the C clamp on link #2 and the C clamp kept slipping so I tilted the shackle until the hitch body was behind it and did the hammer approach.
I did take a file to one side of the pin to slightly increase the bevel. That allowed me to sort of wedge the pin into the collar just enough that it held in place for clamping or hammering.
In the end, it didn't take too long and I'm very happy with the end result. Highly recommended for anyone trying to connect garden variety trailer safety chains to a Ford F-Series factory hitch.

I bought the 1/2 couplings for the safety chain connection issue with our 2019 F250. My first attempt to install them failed so I searched and found this page. After following the tips posted here it was no problem. I slightly tapered one end of each pin with my bench grinder. I used my bench vise to pound in and remove the pins to the bushings several times and them used a vertical 2x4 wedged between the ground and the hitch as a backstop to hammer against. It also prevents dinging up the finish on your hitch or the couplings. Total time to install on the second attempt was 5 minutes. If you are having trouble try these steps and it should be much easier.

We also bought these to solve the trailer chain issue on our 2019 F250. The first hammerlock was a total pain-in-the-you-know-what, but the second went in within 5 seconds after we figured out the tricks. Here a few tips that we learned on the first one that made the second go quickly and painlessly:
1. Lightly file one end of both pins to give it a nice, even bevel. This will help the pin properly seat into the sleeve. I used a Dremel tool with a filing bit.
2. Use a 4lb. drilling/sledge hammer to pound the pins. A regular hammer won't have the needed force.
3. Install the pins into the sleeves a couple of times before installing them on the truck. This will expand the sleeves and make it easier for final install. Hammer the pins into the sleeve on concrete—pushing it almost all the way into the sleeve. Back out the pin from the sleeve using a screwdriver. To separate the two pieces, I inserted the assembled pin/sleeve vertically into my bench vice. I tightened the bench vise just enough to lightly grasp the pin, and left the sleeve above the jaws of the vise. A couple of strikes down with the hammer and the screwdriver and the pin pushes out, leaving the sleeve resting above the vise. **Be careful not to accidentally fling the sleeve once it is free from the pin** (Learned that the hard way and spent 20 minutes trying to find it in my shop)
4. Wedge a section of 2x10 (or something similar) between the ground and the small lip on the back of the tow hitch under the truck (behind the holes where the chains go). This provides a nice, solid backstop to hammer against and keep the hammerlocks from moving while striking the pin. **IT IS CRITICAL TO MAKE SURE THE HAMMERLOCKS DON"T MOVE WHILE YOU STRIKE THE PIN**
Best of luck!

Unfortunately I have to rate this product poorly. After an hour or so, unable to get them together. I even filed the pins ever so slightly and lubed with grease in hopes I could hammer together, no luck. I even placed the pins in the freezer overnight in hopes I could shrink them just enough, still no go. I purchased another pair from the local Grainger branch, they installed in under 5 min??? The take away here though in the great customer service I received. After explaining the issue, I was able to return them promptly and received a full refund. Disappointed the hammerlocks didn't work, the price was half compared to the ones I ended up with.

I bought these for a new F250. The first one took a little time to figure out. Once I found a good angle, it was only 5 minutes with a 3 pound hammer, and they were both on. Definitely just the thing for safety chains on the newer trucks. It took a little work but I am confident they won’t come off.

Okay...as the only thing you have to bang against is your hitch.....I trud just banging with 5lb hammer...no joy....heated center and froze pins...no joy...
So I pounded a pin halfway through each center collar on workbench to expand a bit. Knock pin back out with screwdriver... THEN it was about a 30 second install and minimized the hammering on the hitch.

They work great. Used a 5 lb. Hammer, took about 10 minutes. Line it up with the back against the hitch, hit very Hard. Watch out for your thumb. No beveling, a little ice on the thumb. All is good.

When you receive the Hammer Locks place the pins in a Freezer overnight or until you are ready to install. I used a 3lb hammer and had no problems. It took me about 3 minutes to install.

Ordered this product on August 4 2019. About a week in a half I called autohauler to request a refund as it appeared by USPS the package was lost. They agreed to refund the money. On August the 23rd package showed up damaged with a notice inside box from USPS "Found Without Contents". As of today 8-25-19 I still have not received a refund. Don't have a opinion of the product as I never got it. Opinion on Auto Hauler: Never Again!!! I know they won't post this review..
We spoke and I said to give it a couple of days and we will return your funds. You did not contact me that it had arrived damaged. Then you created a dispute with PayPal within 2 days. Now we have to go through the dispute process. Your return in now delayed. And I am sorry for your issues with USPS. You will be getting a full refund.

These are not easy to install!! First attempt of about 4 hours last night was unsuccessful and ended when I slammed my thumb between a 5-pound hammer and the hammerlock trying to smack the living daylights out of the hammerlock pin but ended up smacking the living daylights out of my thumb. On second day with thumb feeling somewhat ok it took me about 1,5 hours to install. I hammered the pins in halfway into each hammerlock twice on some wood and removed pin with a punch between 2 pieces of wood. Then I angled the hammerlock as in the attached photo and tied to install but the center sleeve kept falling out. I then beveled the pin on a file as in photo and tried again. This time with success!! You must hit the pin hard. I think driving the pins halfway on a piece of wood gave me more confidence and the needed experience to know how hard to hammer the sucker. Anyway, not easy install but once installed looks like it will work great and no more frustration getting my trailer chains hooked up. Did not see place to upload photo.
Sorry you banged your thumb! But I'm glad I read this review, because our sales rep Jacqueline reminded me that she had a devil of a time getting that pin to go in. She put the hammerlock in the freezer overnight, and then worked a lot better. Going to update the product listing so people get a chance to read that and know what they can do.

Installed on a 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. C-clamp was not effective. I used a 3 pound dead-blow hammer and ground a better bevel on one end of each retaining pin. Took about 10 whacks to drive the pin in on each hammerlock. On the GM 2.5" receiver hitch platform, make sure you orient them so you can rest the hammerlock assembly securely against the receiver and drive the pin from front of vehicle to rear when hammering the pin. Hammerlocks arrived in three days from TX to GA. One of the hammerlock packages appeared to be opened and taped back shut and looked like it was returned from a previous customer but it worked just fine. I would suggest this supplier to add GM 2500 to their description and they would sell more of these. (Not everyone drives ford.)

Great fit, pain to get on until we found this solution and the 2nd one went on easy. We bolted an 1/8 steel plate I had in the garage using the factory hole in the back of the hitch. That gave the support to the mini sledge we use to hold the hammerlocks from moving. I wish I could attach the pictures I took of how we did it.

These were the answer to a problem that had me stumped. How Ford can deliver a new truck that costs a small fortune without something like these Hammerlocks escapes me. Although my truck is less than a month old, the best advice I got from two trailer dealers was to '...grind down the hitch so the safety chains will fit...' You've got to be kidding me!), or bring the trailer in and have the hooks on the safety chains replaced. I wasn't about to mess with the structural integrity of the truck's hitch and I wasn't about to tow my trailer illegally. I will note that having had two rotator cuff surgeries I was hard-pressed to assemble the Hammerlocks. I finally gave up and dry fit the parts on my bench. (I'm still using shackles I purchased at Tractor Supply for small travel trailer.) Ford Motor Co. should wake up and put a pair of these on every F25 / F350 truck they sell that uses this design hitch.

Tried everything to install these. Couldn’t do it. Tried c-clamps, running the pin through the tightness a few times to loosen them, hammers, etc. Nope! Couldn’t do it and I’m pretty handy. I don’t have any help and wasn’t going to pay a garage to do it. I bought a different product. If anyone wants to buy these 2, I’ll make them a deal. What good is a product that is so hard to install?
Hello Bob, I am sorry to hear you had trouble installing the hammerlock...most customers have had no problem...did you watch the video from our site? If it has not been used, we can return them.

I bought this product for my 2017 F250 after reading the earlier reviews. Great products and it solves the problem of attaching the safety chains. I battled to install this item as there is not a perfect way to attack and hammer the pin into place.....BUT, after reading all the reviews, there are TWO helpful hints that make the install a breeze. First, file down one end of the pin a little more to create a more pronounced bevel which will help get the pin started into the sleeve. And second and tilting the hammer lock so it is resting on the hitch which will provide a solid backdrop to hammer the $h!t out of the pin. To be more clear, if you are facing the hitch and looking at your tailgate, take the hammerlock and rotate towards you, basically rotating it up. By doing that, all you must do with one hand is keep it still while you knock the pin in. Hope this helps put all the info together. Thanks for the feedback on the reviews, it made the install a breeze!

Purchased these for our 2018 GMC 2500HD Duramax.
Watched a Youtube review on these and then purchased. They are a must have. Makes hooking up safety chains so easy.
I placed these on the back section of my safety chain box so they are out of sight. You don't notice them unless you are looking for them.
When installing I would suggest tapping the pin all the way through a few times to loosen the center section before installing. It makes installing them a lot easier.
We placed a 2x4 behind Hammerlock and then tapped the pin through. 2x4 rest against the hitch then tapped pin through.
Total install time was less than 10 mins.
I would highly recommend this product.

Was a pain to get these in on the back of the F350. But what I found to make it much easier was to grind just a bit more bevel on one side. This way when hammering them in, they would align the sleeve perfectly every time. Once I ground the bit more bevel, install was a breeze.

As great as my 2017 Ford F-250 is, the hitch design is stupid. These hammerlocks are what you need. Installation a little tricky. Make sure all parts are lined up EXACTLY before you tap the pin thru for final assembly. Also, I assembled the hammerlock on my bench and took it apart a couple of times and it made it easier to assemble on the hitch. Great product,

Hi Jeff,
Normally these hammerlocks are installed on chain products, with more space to work on them, and likely on a solid surface to work on. Not under a vehicle!
We are working on figuring out ways to help you install these, we will update as we have more info.
